The Lenoir High School Band, of Lenoir, North Carolina, was one of the most successful high school bands in the southeastern United States during its existence from 1924 until the school was closed in 1977. During that time, it was renowned for the discipline and musicianship of its members, and was invited to march and play at sites along the entire East Coast, including the New York World's Fair and numerous gubernatorial inaugurations. Its record at the North Carolina State Music Contest was unparalleled: from 1933 until the school's closing the Band amassed 42 consecutive Superior ratings in Class VI (the most difficult music), competing against schools many times larger. On November 8, 1997, the Band staged a reunion concert featuring more than a hundred of its former members. On July 4, 1999, a more elaborate reunion was held, including a ceremonial march through the streets of Lenoir.
